Shepherd hut glamping close to beaches
opposite Salcombe, Devon, UK.

Situated in a rural, wild meadow, our two off-grid shepherds huts sit in the three acre site, sleep two people and each has a double bed, kitchen (small fridge, cold running water, gas hob, crockery & utensils), indoor table and chairs a wood burning stove, fire pit, outdoor seating and great views. They share a converted horsebox that houses a hot shower and compost toilet. Linen and towels are provided.

The meadow is surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of the South Hams and the short ferry trip to buzzing Salcombe is just at the bottom of the hill (12mins walk away downhill) along with fabulous beaches of East Portlemouth, Smalls Cove, Mill Bay and Sunny Cove.

Light & airy in hot weather and warm & cosy when cooler, this wool-insulated, carefully crafted shepherd’s hut has all the essentials to simplify your stay and help you relax. Being off-grid, the hut’s electrics are powered by a 12v power supply; there is no capacity for 240v appliances like hair dryers and straighteners, but we’re happy to lend you a fully-charged power-pack for devices… or charge up yours. We get good 4G signal at the meadow which only occasionally drops to 3G. The hob and shower all run on bottled gas.

There’s hot & cold-running water in the shower and sink in the converted horsebox, with running cold water in the hut.

These are self-contained huts where as much of the space as possible has been optimised to fit in everything needed. Space for large amounts of luggage is not really available. There are underbed storage boxes for clothes, a couple of hangers, coat hooks, a shoe box (no outdoor footwear inside) and a boot rack outside by the door. Bed linen, tea towels and bath towels provided… just bring your beach towel!

If it gets a bit chilly, you have a wonderful, wood-burning stove inside and a  firepit outside. We provide only kindling for the stove, as the hut’s insulation and incredibly efficient stove heat up the space very quickly. More can be bought from us, along with extra logs for the outside firepit/bbq. The shared composting toilet and shower are housed in a converted horsebox and less than a minute’s walk from the hut – there is a torch provided but you might like to bring your own too.

Due to the nature of the meadow and the huts, we cannot accept children
or pets – so sorry.

Where to find us

The meadow is situated at the top of the hill, passed the church when coming from the beaches and Salcombe ferry, and is opposite Village Farm. We are the wooden gate by the East Portlemouth village sign.
